The ongoing rice trade dispute between Jamaica and Guyana is likely to be mediated by the leaders of both the Caribbean nations after regional talks failed to end the deadlock. The dispute was initiated by Jamaica's intent to import rice from outside Caribbean Community, CARICOM. Last year, a rice shortfall from Guyana forced Jamaica to buy about 15,400 MT from the U.S. This year, Guyana insists it has enough rice for Jamaica. |
