Malaysia's Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Mustapa Mohamed has announced that the government is planning to increase domestic sales of local 15% broken or ST15 grade rice to counter any misplaced fears of local rice shortage in the country

Malaysia's monopoly rice importer, Padiberas Nasional Berhad, or Bernas, has been instructed to raise the monthly supply of ST15 grade rice by 9,000 MT to 20,000 MT from Wednesday onwards.

Malaysia currently imports around 27% of its annual rice requirements.
