The UAE government has played down rice shortage fears and has assured consumers that it has enough stocks of basmati and non-basmati rice to meet the local market demand for the next eight to 12 months.

Several consumers in the UAE had complained of rise in the prices of rice after India and Pakistan banned the export of non-basmati rice.
