Local rice farmers in Trinidad And Tobago have warned that unless the Government starts paying more for their product, the rice industry is likely to die within the next few months due to the enormous rise in production costs.

Farmers revealed that they have been getting $1 for a pound of rice for the past 12 years, while the cost of production has gone up by 200 %. The farmers are now asking for $2, $1.75 and $1.25 per pound for their produce to counter the rising costs.
