Vietnam has formally committed to sell an additional 1.5 million MT of rice to the Philippines amid surging prices and tight supplies in the global market.

The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding giving the Philippines access to 1.5 million MT of the grain. This doesn't include rice imports that the Philippines had previously contracted from Vietnamese suppliers.
