According to the recent statistics released by the government of India, India which is the second largest rice producer in the world, has exported 51.02 lakh tons of non-basmati rice till January this year.

The Indian government had imposed ban on the export of non-basmati rice in October 2007. However, it was later lifted by fixing a minimum export price (MEP), which is currently ruling at 650 $ PMT.
