Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has announced plans to immediately import 45,000 MT of rice to cover the recent food shortage triggered by loss of crops due to floods.

The total of 45,000 MT of rice are expected to arrive in Ecuador in mid-April to substitute the lost crops, at least 40 % of the total harvest.
