The Indian Government has relaxed its export ban on non Basmati rice priced at over above $500 PMT in the international markets, basis cost and freight.

The relaxation of the ban comes following strong opposition from farmers groups and traders, who are suffering from a sharp drop in prices.

The Indian government had banned non-basmati rice exports in October to ensure adequate local supplies.
