According to the latest data released by Thailand's Office of Agricultural Economics, the Thai government has managed to procure just 46,995 MT of 2007-08 main crop rice till Dec. 19 under the current intervention program. Thailand farmers and millers have so far been reluctant to participate in the government program as the local market prices were currently higher than the intervention prices. Thailand government sets intervention prices for all grades of rice and buys the grain from farmers at the guaranteed prices during the harvest season from November to the end of February. |
