Chicago Board of Trade rice finished moderately higher in relatively modest trade Monday as screen-based buying lifted prices in the absence of any fresh news.

On daily technical charts, January settled above its 20-day moving average but remained below its 10-day moving average. January rice rose 8 1/2 cents to $12.95 1/2 per hundredweight.
