According to the latest figures, the Indian central government has managed to purchased only 8.61 million MT of rice from farmers in the current rice marketing year down 4.6% on year.

India's rice marketing year starts in October and ends in September. The government purchases rice from farmers at state-set intervention prices to run its subsidized rice sale programs.
