Chicago Board of Trade rice futures settled higher in light trading Monday as speculative buying led nearby months to new highs and the highest price on monthly continuous charts since January 1988.

Technical buying above the $13.00 level in January extended the gains, but a lack of additional buying capped the upside. January settled 8 cents higher at $13.05 per hundredweight.
