Chicago Board of Trade rice futures settled higher Thursday amid light trade as thin speculative buying helped support prices.

Stronger wheat values helped supply light spillover support with early fund buying added to the gains as January futures gained 6 cents to $12.89 per cwt.

New life-of-contract highs were set in the January and March contracts.
