Drought Hits Australian Rice Industry

Five years of serious drought has all but ruined the Australian rice crop in the main growing area of New South Wales with expected rice output of 15,000 MT this year, against the usual 1.2 million MT.

The crop estimate of 15,000 MT based on the latest grower surveys will represent little more than one per cent of the industry's normal production and would be the lowest since 1928.
