Thai rice export prices were higher in the week to Monday due to a strong demand for the local varieties prompted mostly by the absence of Vietnam, Thailand's major competitor in the rice export trade.

On Monday, Thai 100% grade B was offered at $345-$350 PMT, FOB while 5% broken was offered at $335-$338 PMT, FOB. These prices are $3-$5 higher than last week. Parboiled 100% sortexed was offered $2-$8 higher at $348-$354 PMT, FOB.

The Thai government is also offering to sell its old stocks to take advantage of current high prices and strong demand in the market.
