The Indian government has formally issued orders for a ban on exports of non-basmati rice ending speculations in the global rice market that some premium grades of non-basmati rice may be exempted from the ban.

The government order makes the ban on exports effective from Oct. 9.  However, the government statement didn't state whether shipments for which lines of credit had been opened before Oct. 9 will or will not be permitted for export.
