India: Government Initiates Action To Increase Production

The Indian Government has decided to initiate the National Development Council (NDC) resolution through the National Food Security Mission to increase the country's rice production by 10 million MT in the next four years. According to India's Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, NDC has adopted a resolution to enhance the production of rice, wheat and pulses by 10 million, 8 million and 2 million respectively, by 2011. Rice production in 2005-06 was 91.97 million MT, while that of wheat was 69.3 MT and pulses 13.39 MT. |
