As India's monsoon activity passes through a weak phase, lack of proper rainfall in rice growing regions could hamper the overall rice crop.

India's farmers depend heavily on monsoon rains between June and September for planting crops because around two-thirds of India's agricultural land is unirrigated.

In terms of the volume of rain, July is the most important month of the monsoon season.
