The Philippine National Food Authority has decided not to allow any rice imports from the United States this year fearing that imports could depress local prices in the coming harvesting season.

A major buyer of rice in Asia, the Philippines has contracted to buy 1.64 million MT of rice this year, mostly from Vietnam, to fill a shortfall in local output during the lean months of July to September.
