Caribbean Importers Run Into trouble With Guyanese Producers

Guyanese rice producers have threatened legal action against two Caribbean island neighbors who allegedly bought subsidized rice from other regions without levying import taxes. Montserrat, a British Caribbean territory, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are accused of regularly buying rice from several Asian nations and the U.S. without levying mandatory import taxes Guyana, which is the region's largest rice producer has now instructed the South American nation's rice export board to take their trade dispute to the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice, the highest judicial body for much of the region. |
