Chicago Board of Trade rice futures settled sharply lower Friday as fund liquidation based on a weak technical picture pushed prices lower.

May rice settled 34 1/2 cents lower to $9.79 per hundredweight and November fell 27 cents to $10.70.

U.S. farmers are still not able to plant the Clearfield 131 rice seed variety this spring which should support ideas of lower rice acres.
