Pakistan: rice export to touch $1.5 billion mark

Pakistan, for the first time, will achieve a rice export target of $1.5 billion during the current fiscal year. Any move to impose ban on rice export like wheat and gram, will upset this effort. The rise in the prices of Basmati was due to world-wide shortage in its production. India is facing a shortage of 25 percent in its basmati rice crop this year. However, this is the true price of basmati rice in the international market. The government would refrain from any such move as it will affect country's export.
