Chicago Board of Trade rice futures finished modestly higher Monday, recovering from speculative selling early in the session on local and speculative buying, thought to be short covering after last week's price weakness.

May rice ended 2 cents higher at $10.35 cents per hundredweight and November rose 4 cents to $11.25.

Last week the market was hit pretty hard to the downside and the recovery that began Friday continued Monday.
