Argentina: Rice production can descend between 15 and a 20%

According to the Association Correntina of Rice Farmers, the low yield of the rice harvest in the province of Cprrientes (Argentina) could be recovered increasing the price of the cereal in the international market.

The main rice zones of Argentina are in the provinces of Corrientes and Entre Ríos (which accounts 85% of the domestic production).

For both harvests, yields have descended from the beginning due to little favourable climatologic conditions. Seedtime of the rice began with delay due to the lack of water (during the second trimester of 2006). Later continuous precipitations caused a reduction in the quality of the grain. Also the harvesting has been delayed and lacked solar light.
