Mexico: WTO Ruling Doesn't End Rice Duties

Mexico's Deputy Economy Minister said a World Trade Organization ruling against Mexican import duties on U.S. white long grain rice doesn't mean the duties will be lifted.
The final ruling earlier this week by a WTO panel means Mexico must redo some parts of the antidumping investigation to bring it in line with WTO agreements.
The WTO panel ruled that Mexico had unfairly imposed the antidumping tariffs in 2002, prompting a complaint by the U.S. the following year.
The panel said Mexico based its analysis of economic harm to domestic rice growers on outdated information, and failed to examine some of the data collected.
An antidumping probe usually takes about a year, but the time could vary depending on what new information is required or what actions need to be taken.
