Nicaragua: Dealers Ahead CAFTA

The Association of Rice Dealers of Nicaragua (ANAR), asked for a study to value the situation of country’s rice sector to be prepared for CAFTA. With the results of the report, Nicaragua must focus on increasing effectiveness to be able to be more competitive.

ANAR´s president also proposes to develop two new varieties of rice. From January the association also starts a project of financing for small producers and rice industrialists called "50 million and plus". As per the study, domestic production is low because it reaches only 75 cwt by manzana*. (manzana = 1,72 acres).
