Bangladesh's import of foodgrains, both rice and wheat, is unlikely to increase further during the second half of the current fiscal year (2006-07).
During the first half of 2006-07 the import of foodgrains, especially rice and wheat, exceeded target by several times.
Between July and December of 2006 the country imported 1,41,174 MT of rice against the target of 24,000 MT for the whole year and the import of wheat stood at 9,97,722 MT against the target of 2,50,000 MT for whole fiscal year (2006-07).
