Philippines hopes to reach 3.3 million MT of rice by 2010

Laos in the Philippines hopes to reach 3.3 million MT of rice production by 2010, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sitaheng Rasphol said.

It is believed that IRRI-GMS will play an essential role in helping Laos reduce the poverty by improving household incomes. Households growing Lao modern varieties have more than triple the incomes of households growing only traditional varieties.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) established a new IRRI Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Office in Laos
