Indonesia's rice production is being decreased because of prolonged dryness,
thus delaying planting and harvesting and a decline in the overall planted area
for 2007.
According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture attache report posted Tuesday on the Foreign Agricultural Services Web site, combined with fertilizer and seed problems as well as continued land conversion to non-agricultural uses, these factors are responsible for a
downward revision for rice production.
FAS/Jakarta estimates that 2007
production will decline to 33.7 million MT rice milled equivalent and imports will increase to 1.8 million MT.
