China's rice output rose slightly 0.3 percent in 2006 to 31.9 million MT from last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.
Most south provinces grow three-season rice, with rice, harvested in June, accounting for less than 20 percent of the country's total rice production.
China's grain think-tank China National Grain and Oils Information Centre has estimated the country's total paddy output will rise just 0.1 percent to 180.74 million MT from 2005 after drought damaged rice production in south-western provinces.
