Spain: Rice Production To Reach 773.596 MT

According to estimations of the Confederation of Agrarian Cooperatives (CCAE), in Spain rice production will reach 773,596 MT, a reduction of 10.29 % in relation with the previous harvest.

In the region of Extremadura rice production will increase a 4.23% reaching 194,910 MT with an increase of 4.55% of the cultivated surface. In Andalusia, the main producing region of rice in Spain is expected a production of 240,000 MT, 105,000 less than during the previous campaign, due to difficulties for water supply.

Navarre also could accuse a reduction of 23.13% in the production, in relation with 2005. Aragon increases with respect to previous campaign reaching 70,434 MT. Catalonia, reaches 136,500 MT, Valencia increases a 0.87% and the surface cultivated in Murcia stays in 3,452 hectares.
