According to Greenpeace although transgenic rice Liberty Link, produced by Bayer, has still not been approved by sanitary authorities of U.S.A. for its commercialization but is already in the market and will comprise the 752,000 MT which imports Mexico annually.

Mexico is the greater importer of U.S.A rice. The National Federation of Rice Producers (Fenaparroz) and Greenpeace Mexico indicated that rice imported by Mexico of American origin is economic due to subsidies received by rice producers of U.S.A.
