According to Nepal's National Agriculture Research Council (NARC), improved paddy has covered almost 85% of the total paddy cultivation area in the country.

As Paddy contributes 20 % to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nepal the government is focusing on increasing the production of rice and supplying them to need people. Rice paddy also accounts for 56 % of the total cereal production in Nepal.
