To protect the beginning of agricultural campaign 2006-2007 and to avoid water shortage in Piura (Peru), the National Council of Agrarian Development (CORDA), proposed to reduce rice cultivated area during next season.

CORDA´s president indicated that in , 2005, 14,000 hectares of rice were seeded, which would have to be reduced to 8,000 hectares.

If a big surface for rice farming is used, harvest would be done at end of December delaying the sowing of the great crop.
