Rice gall Orseolia Oryzae known as gall fly is a serious pest of rice.

The fly becomes active during the monsoon. The larval stage is destructive. It causes damage by feeding on the growing primordia.

The larva stimulates the leaf sheath to grow into an oval shaped chamber, which then develops into a gall, which resembles an onion leaf and is popularly known as onion leaf or silver shoot.

Pest Management
— Removal of alternate hosts from the field and field bunds.
— Use of resistant varieties that would suit the specific location.
— Use of light traps to attract adult midges.
— Judicious application of recommended doses of fertilisers.
