Mexico: Imports 75% Of Country's Rice Needs

Mexico, at present depends on 75% of rice imports, when previously the country was self-sufficient.

Almost 95% of rice imports come from U.S.A. As per the president of the State Union of Rice Dealers, it is necessary to support to rice sector.

Previously 275,000 hectares of rice were seeded in the country that generated 7,5 million of wages, whereas at the moment only 5,000 producers have remained that cultivate around 70,000 hectares, which yield 250,000 MT and generate 1,5 million wages.
