Dominican Republic: Will fix regulation for rice production

The Rice National Commission of the Dominican Republic approved to fix norms for rice production with the objective to obtain a greater competitiveness and self-sufficiency. On the other hand the Commission is debating a rank of prices for the spring rice crop, that according to forecasts will be abundant (around 10 million cwt) which already being collected.

According to results of the inventory made by the Rice Commission there are 1.953.000 cwt of rice in the warehouses, of which 56% were pledged. The rice producers have urged to settle down the strips to fortified within the rice sector, as well as other measures as reduction of production costs.

The Dominican Republic consumes about 800,000 cwt of rice per year (between 100 to 105 pounds of rice by person).
