October 14, 04USDA Attache: US Garners 82.73% of 04 Taiwan Rice Tenders On October 13, Taiwan completed all the 2004 public rice tenders. The United States captured an 82.73 percent share, Australia 10.63 percent and Thailand 6.64 percent. The final tender of 1,400 tons of milled glutinous short grain rice were tendered at three tranches, of which 210 tons was awarded to a Thai supplier at NT$24,760/mt or $728/mt, 400 tons to a U.S. supplier at the same price and the remaining 790 tons went to another U.S. supplier at NT$25,500/mt or $750/mt. The tender of 850 tons of long brown grain rice was awarded to a Thai supplier at NT$12,990/mt or $383/mt. As of today, 34,000 tons or 36 percent of the 2004 public trade quota rice has been delivered to Taiwan. (Exchange rate was $1=NT$34 on October 8; $1=NT$33.84 on October 13.) according to information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service Web site, dated Oct. 8 and released Wednesday. Completion of Rice Tenders of the 2004 Public Trade Quota On October 13, Taiwan completed all the public rice tenders for 2004. The United States captured an 82.73 percent share, Australia 10.63 percent and Thailand 6.64 percent. As of October 13, 34,000 tons or 36 percent of the 2004 public trade quota rice on a brown basis has been delivered to Taiwan. The United States has delivered 28,850 tons of medium brown grain, all from 2003 crop, Thailand has delivered 1,700 tons of long grain brown rice and 3,000 tons of milled glutinous long grain rice to COA designated warehouses. The Continued Fifth Tender Results The final tender of 1,400 tons of milled glutinous short grain was broken into small bids. The first of 210 tons was awarded to a Thai supplier at NT$24,760/mt or $728/mt, 400 tons to a U.S. supplier at the same price and the remainder 790 tons to another U.S. supplier at NT$25,500/mt or $750/mt. The 850-ton of long brown grain was awarded to a Thai supplier at NT$12,990/mt or $384/mt.
