Vietnam Rice Prices Little Changed On High Global Demand
By Oryza News on May 09,2007
Vietnamese rice export prices were little changed in the week to Tuesday on high global demand and as local farmers have almost finished their harvesting for the key paddy rice crop this year. The next crop will be in the fall, so the price is expected to rise in the coming weeks as local companies to intensify their export deliveries. The association is expected to export up to 1 million MT in May and June. Vietnam exported 1.4 million MT of rice valued at $446 million in the first four months of the year, down 19.4% on year in volume and 7.3% on value, government figures showed. In Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, traders quoted indicative prices for high-quality 5% broken rice at $300 PMT, down from $303 PMT last week, and 25% broken grade at $285 PMT, unchanged from last week.
