Vietnam Rice Export Prices Higher Thursday Amid Strong Demand

By Oryza News on May 25,2007

In Vietnam, prices remained at high levels Thursday on strong demand in the local market from exporters who need to fill in huge contracts. In fact, exporters are no longer offering the 25% broken grade. Most of the country's available supply of 25% broken grade is intended for shipment to the Philippines.

The Philippines, which usually buys the lower grade 25% broken variety, will seek tenders for the supply of 300,000 MT of rice on June 6. Vietnam's supply of 15% broken grade are mostly for shipment to Indonesia. Vietnam's 5% broken was offered unchanged Thursday at $302 PMT, FOB, Ho Chi Minh City, while 10% broken was offered at $295 PMT.
