Thai Rice Prices Little Changed As Rain Slows Trade
By Oryza News on May 15,2007
Thai rice prices were little changed in the week to Monday as trading in rice has slowed to a trickle. Thai 100% Grade B was unchanged from a week ago at $326 metric ton, while 5% broken was at $318 PMT, slightly higher than $316 PMT a week ago. While there weren't many export deals struck during the week for prompt shipment, a rice convention in Bangkok witnessed negotiations of deals that may lead to export shipments over the next few months. At the convention, Thai Commerce Minister Krirkkrai Jirapaet said that Thai traders are expected to sell 150,000 MT of rice to Iraq over the next two to three months. Jirapaet said 32,000 MT will be shipped from Thailand this month, while the rest will be shipped over next few months.
