By Oryza News on April 17,2007

Vietnamese rice export prices were unchanged in the week to Tuesday as local supply continues to increase amid stronger global demand. Farmers in the Mekong delta region continued intensifying their harvesting activities, increasing rice supply to meet export demand which will rise in the second quarter this year.

Vietnam exported less than 1 million MT of rice in the first quarter, but the country is expected to export up to 2 million MT in the second quarter. Prices are expected to be higher in the next few weeks, with farmers finishing the harvest by end-April.

In Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, traders quoted indicative prices for high-quality 5% broken rice at $305 PMT and 25% broken grade at $285 PMT, unchanged from last week.
