Thailand: Prices Little Changed Despite Lackluster Demand

By Oryza News on April 26,2007

Thailand's rice export prices were little changed Thursday despite thin trade due to lackluster demand. For instance, major buyers of parboiled variety such as Nigeria and Benin, are believed to seeking cheaper supplies in India, which has a $30 price advantage over Thai offers.

Because of slower demand from overseas, local prices have been softer this week. However, a strong Thai baht prevents exporters from offering lower prices.

Thai 100% grade B was offered little changed Thursday at $323-$324 PMT, FOB, Bangkok, 5% broken was offered at $312-$316/ton, while parboiled 100% sortexed was offered at $318-$322 PMT.
