Prices Mostly Steady On Strong Demand In Thailand
By Oryza News on April 11,2007
According to exporters, Thai export supply has been steadily increasing in recent weeks as harvesting of the main crop is now in full swing. However, a potential discount in local prices is tempered by strong demand for Thai varieties. Importers like Japan, China, Iran and other Middle East countries have also been regular buyers of Thai rice, the second exporter said. Based on current market forces, prices are likely to remain stable in the near term, exporters said, adding that any price movement in Thailand will depend largely on the exchange rate. Thai 100% grade B was offered Wednesday at $323-$324 PMT, FOB, Bangkok, 5% broken at $317-$318 PMT, while parboiled 100% sortexed was offered at $320 PMT. These prices were unchanged from prices offered Thursday.
