Vietnamese firms have raised the price of export rice more than 9% to reach $600 PMT as a result of a government directive urging the companies to buy rice to support farmers in the Mekong Delta region.

The Vietnam Food Association has instructed its member companies to set the minimum export price for 5% broken rice at $600 PMT, FOB, effective from today, up from $550 PMT.

According to the Vietnamese government, rice export companies would not receive licenses if they offer prices below the price fixed by the VFA.
