Asian Prices Unmoved By Cambodia Ban Reversal

By news desk on May 28,2008

According to industry experts, Cambodia's decision to resume rice exports after a ban in late March is unlikely to push down Asian rice export prices in the near future.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had earlier announced that the government would allow the export of 1.6 million MT of rice from its current stocks via government-sanctioned deals.

Cambodia usually exports 400,000 MT of rice per year to Vietnam, its only exporter, via the land route, as the country's only major port is inaccessible from the producing areas.
