Chicago Board of Trade rice futures soared to record highs Thursday on speculative buying and strong global fundamentals.

Nearby May rice reached a high of $20.35 per cwt exceeding its previous high of $20.17 1/2, before closing 41 cents higher at $20.20. July rice hit an all-time high of $20.69, exceeding the previous high of $20.50, before ending 31 cents higher at $20.42.
