By Oryza News on April 06,2007

Forecasts for lower U.S. rice acreage in 2007 should
keep Chicago Board of Trade rice futures well supported, despite recent
concerns about genetically modified organisms in conventional rice supplies
dampening demand.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on March 30 estimated 2007 all rice
planted acreage at 2.644 million acres, 7% lower than the 2.838 million planted
in 2006.
