Producers, millers and drug dealers in Panama say that their costs have increased. Producers allege that their costs have gone from 905 USD by hectare in campaign 2002/03 to 1.400 USD by hectare at present. The president of the National Association of Rice Millers (ANALMO) says that the subject is not for causing alterations, whereas the millers think that the increase of the costs comprises the world-wide crisis and that they still expected an increase of electrical energy tariffs.

According to the president of the Association of Rice Producers of Chiriquí (APACH), the present and future increase of the agricultural production is related to derivatives of petroleum.
