The Minister of Farming Development of Panama (MIDA), does not discard to freeze rice prices as a government way to avoid the rise of rice prices. Waiting the analyses conducted by the Authority of Protection to the Consumer and Defense of Competition, the producers and millers have still not increased prices.

Rice imported by Panama recently (1,4 million cwt), paid a tariff of 3%, instead  90% which is the normal charge. According to the Minister there is enough rice to supply the market until end of September.
